The Ohio Beef Expo just ended. We were back representing the American Aberdeen Association and the Eastern Aberdeen Association. With an attendance of over 35,000 in just 3 1/2 days, this show is great exposure for the Aberdeen breed for youth, hobbyists, seed stock, show, and commercial alike.
Social, judging contest, BQA certifications, feeder cattle sale, breed shows, breed sales, genetic pathway and youth shows lasted all weekend long. 472 youth signed up for the judging content this year! A junior member of one of the Eastern Aberdeen Associations’ own, C.A.B.B Farms, placed 15th out of the 472! Congratulations to Amelia!
At the show, a group of students from the Ohio Valley Career & Technical Center got to learn about the Aberdeen. This group has over 300 acres! They have already created co-op & education opportunities for the students with The Ohio State University head of Meat Science, a local Co-op meat market and are looking to create their own inspected livestock processing facility in the near future. While looking for what breeds would benefit their program and add in to what they have already formed, after talking with us, they decided Aberdeen was the right fit.
While it was a whirlwind of an event, we’re already looking forward to next year!
