The Eastern Aberdeen Association is thrilled to congratulate everyone who participated in The Big E this year. As New England’s largest fair, held annually in West Springfield, Massachusetts, The Big E draws livestock from across the country, showcasing the best of the best in cattle, farming, and rural community spirit. This year, our Eastern Aberdeen participants showed off their hard work and dedication, bringing home notable awards and raising the bar for quality livestock.

    Congratulations to Our Standout Exhibitors

The Hill Family: Premier Exhibitor Success

A special shoutout goes to the Hill Family of Kentucky, whose entries under Colley Hill Farm made quite the impression. Their dedication and commitment to excellence were well rewarded, as they walked away with several honors, including the coveted Premier Exhibitor banner. Their success at this year’s fair reminds us all of the power of perseverance, attention to detail, and a whole lot of heart.

GMC Boss Hoss: Grand Champion Percentage Bull

Owned by Douglas Simpson and Grass Master Cattle, GMC Boss Hoss took the stage by storm as the Grand Champion Percentage Bull. This remarkable bull exemplifies everything we aim for in quality cattle – strength, structure, and solid genetics. This victory is a testament to the hard work put in by his owners and the proud heritage of Aberdeen cattle.

FCC Annie Kins: Reserve Grand Champion Percentage Heifer

Another show highlight was FCC Annie Kins, who earned the title of Reserve Grand Champion Percentage Heifer. Her quality, presence, and strong Aberdeen characteristics make her a standout, a result of her owners’ dedication and expertise in breeding exceptional livestock.

    Understanding Percentage in Show Cattle

For those newer to showing, “percentage” refers to cattle that contain Aberdeen genetics crossed with other breeds. Percentage Aberdeen cattle retain the core strengths of the Aberdeen breed, like hardiness and efficiency, while allowing for a bit of hybrid vigor. This cross can enhance certain traits, producing an animal well-suited for today’s ranching needs. As shown by the results this year, percentage cattle can hold their own in the ring, bringing home significant titles and accolades.
